Magazine newsstand task/ distribution of magazines
The shop i visited was an off licence, they had a variety of magazines. However, what i found interested was that the magazines on the bottom shelf were over lapping whereas some others on top weren't. I asked a member of staff why that was and he said it was because these were the magazines that were well sold and that they wanted it to be visible to the eye. As you can see 'uncut' has many copy's behind it showing that this is a magazine that is commonly brought by many people.
I did ask them if they followed the conventions of other stores, with the way they layout their magazine and if they did measure the gap between each magazine. They said no and the fact that they feel like they make more profit when they put forward their best sellers.
Methods of distribution
Circulation figures help publishers to predict and plan how many issues to produce and hand out. The term 'Sale or return' means that if the newsagent/ supermarket have not been able to sell the magazines they can send them back to the distributor and so the people selling the magazines do not lose any money. However, this is worrying for the distributors as they have a risk of losing their money and i'm not taking about losing a few pounds, there's millions that go into this. Furthermore, online publishing is another way of producing income as people are able to read articles online through payment, however, sometimes even free. Distribution networks are when magazines are taken into lorries to local distributors, then move the magazines onto the shops newsstands. Magazines are normally sold in supermarkets or newsagents as they make a lot of sell there. The term 'Freemiums' is direct distribution, this is when magazines are free and they make their revenue from advertising. Payment-postal/ electronic this is when subscribers subscribe to a magazine at a much reduced price. Ezines are electronic versions of a magazine, with similar features such as pages that can be turned, adverts, page numbers etc and its exactly the same as the hard copy's. Ezines are usually free. Apps are now available for most magazines with some or all the contents offered in the hard copy of the magazine. Electronic brand postponement is where most magazines cover their brand and so that way they have an online existence of the hard copy.

Preliminary task evaluation
Photography:
I went around trying to find the right opportunity to take sufficient images for my college magazine. Photography was one of the easiest thing that I did regarding my college magazine. In total, I took two images. One of a student and the second of a group of students studying in the library. The lighting of each picture was very bright and also the lighting was just right which I would say was a strength of mine. I tried to take images that related to my contents which was easy to do as I was in college at the time when I was creating my college magazine. When it came to taking my second image, I was looking for genuine facial expressions so that the picture comes across professional. However, I would say that one of my weakness regarding photography was that I did not take enough pictures, as taking a variety of pictures attracts the audience and also follows many magazines conventions.

Image Manipulation on Photoshop:
I change the background and the image itself to black and white. I wanted it to have a formal context to it. As my image is smiley and its already welcoming people in to read the magazine, and so i thought the contrast would look good together.
Page layout:
Page layout is something that I focused on very thoroughly as I think that page layout is very important because it shows the effort you have put in creating the magazine. I made sure that my main coverline had the biggest font to ensure that it was readable and also catches the reader’s eyes. I included dark colours to my magazine only to make it look more formal.
Use of text (Masthead):
I used a dark maroon for my masthead to make it stand out from the colour of the background. Its font size is big and visible from far. The font style is very formal.

I made sure my coverline was clear and bold. Something that would appeal to my audience and also something that would want to make the open up the magazine. I made my coverlines catchy in the sense that it would draw my audience to the magazine by just reading one line.
Layout on InDesign:
The layout on my contents page was very organised in the sense that the pages would be easy to find.
However, i don't believe the layout of it was appealing and may come across as boring or too plain to the audience of this magazine. My strengths of making this contents page was the photography part of it and my weaknesses was using the software.

Audience feedback for my college magazine was ‘
+ Good job for sticking to the
professional layout
+ Contents is clear and easy to understand
+ All the required details are present
- There's no consistent colour scheme or font between pages
- The contents page is too simple
- Next time save the picture as a jpeg before uploading them
Clear and simple but try to understand the software more’.

What do I need to improve on:
.Practice using the software more to ensure that I have a clear idea on what I am doing and how to implement my ideas on the software.
.Structure my work in a way that the audience of the magazine find it appealing.

Three key developments when producing the main task (music
magazine):
.Practicing using the softwares more
.Work more on the way i layout my work
.Think more clearly about my colour scheme
